Tribune Tower at 435 N Michigan Avenue won a famous 1922 international design competition; Howells & Hood’s neo-Gothic crown opened in 1925. Its base is embedded with fragments of landmarks from around the world — the Great Wall, the Parthenon, the Taj Mahal — collected by Tribune correspondents. Converted to residences in the 2010s, it still commands the north end of the Magnificent Mile.
