How these measures work
Resolved in 7 days is the default because it can’t be gamed by a backlog: it counts every request old enough to have had a week, and a request that is still open past that deadline counts as a miss. A closed-cases-only average makes backlogged neighborhoods look fast, because their slowest cases haven’t closed yet.
Still open after 30 days is the share of requests, old enough to have had 30 days, that were still open 30 days after they were filed. Median days to close is the median among the requests that closed within those 30 days. Both stop at 30 days because the City’s 311 data shows a request only for its first 30 days, so its later progress isn’t visible. Canceled requests are left out of all three measures, and so are call-center notes (the “Information/Notes” records), which aren’t service requests.
Source: Columbus 311 service requests from the City’s 311 map, which shows each request for 30 days, refreshed nightly; trailing 90-day window. Neighborhood boundaries are the City of Columbus’s Columbus Communities planning areas (CC0, as of July 23, 2026). The City notes they aren’t a substitute for area commission boundaries. They include some land outside the city limits: township pockets and two small villages, Minerva Park and Valleyview. See methodology for boundary and suppression details. Neighborhoods with too few requests show as “insufficient data” rather than a noisy number.
