The school-district lottery

One Columbus address, one school district — and the district you land in is set by an invisible boundary line. Each district here is shaded by its Ohio state report-card rating, from 2 to 5 stars. Search your address to see which district serves your parcel, or tap any district on the map for its Performance Index and graduation rate.

How to read this map

Each shape is a public school district whose boundary crosses the Columbus area. Its coloris the district’s overall Ohio report-card rating on a green scale: the darkest green districts earn 5 of 5 stars, the palest earn 2. Gray districts have no state grade on file. The rating, Performance Index, and four-year graduation rate in the drawer all describe the whole district — individual schools inside it vary, sometimes a lot.

The story is the spread: districts a few miles apart can be two full stars apart, and which one your address falls in is decided by a boundary you had no say in. A boundary drawn here may reach past the Columbus city limits, because districts and city lines do not line up.
